These sculptures commemorate the Council on the Bluff over the Missouri where Lewis and Clark met their first Indians. Remember that large African-American man buried next to Mrs Boone? Well, Lewis and Clark met the Indians on this bluff miles north of Council Bluff. They recommended and later was built a fort, Fort Atkinson, on this site. Meanwhile, the river has moved itself, and has been moved, 3 miles to the east, but the bluff is still here. The Fort was packed up and moved west, as the Indians were moved West, but the foundations were all here and they have reconstructed the Fort.
