Here's how the Union Pacific worked. The US government tolp UP that they could have the land (green stripe)along the railroad, and they could sell the land to recoup their costs for building the RR. Guess What? They made money on that one,plus the fact the RR followed the Platte, the good farmland. Surprise! And, what did the Indians get?
