Fort Steele, British Columbia July 12, 2006

This lovely lady is doling out samples of johnnycake, a very popular dish in the 1890s. It is named after the Confederate soldiers who ate it ( 1 part flour to 2 parts cornmeal) during the civil war and brought it to Canada during the Gold Rush. In about 2 seconds the litle guy on the left is going to drop his and his heart will break, then she is going to tell him that he can feed it to the chickens out back and he lit up like a Christmas tree. Judy and I got our johnnycake first because she said it was the custom in the 1890s to feed the oldest first-Damn.  Posted by Picasa
