Martin's Cove, Sun Ranch, June 21, 2006

Several of those Mormon's who were pushing the handcarts arrived here, just down the road from Independence Rock, in September, October rather that July 4th, so guess what- it snowed. Many of them died here, but some survived when Brigham Young sent folks east looking for them. This area was for years Sun Ranch, but the Sun's just sold it to the Mormon's. They send their teens out here on the Pioneer Trek, where they pull a hand cart 3-4 days. The teens from Coeur d'Alene had just come in when I arrived, and we all descended on the Ladies Room. It is somewhat bizarre to be driving the road here, which is all but deserted, and to come into the parking lot full of 20+ busses and about 100 cars.
