Here's John Marshall, atop the hill pointing his finger to the spot where he found the gold. He lived in a little house near here and died near here a poor man. If he'd quietly waded in the river for a few days, he'd have been a rich man. It was the local storekeeper who paraded down the street in Sacramento announcing the gold find- thought it would be good for business- duh!!
