You'll have to double click this pix to see the picture in any detail. The pix was taken in 1923. Even at that time this huge white monolith rises out of the desert, with nothing for miles. There was a convent/ school/ small Indian village on the grounds, but basically it is out in the middle of nowhere, so you can imagine what it was like 100 year before that!!
