San Xavier del Bac Mission 2-15-07

Here's the inside of the mission. The missionaries thought that the bigger, shinier, and more ornate the church was would impress the Indians and win them over to Jesus! This was quite a contrast to the religious beliefs of the Indians. Pretty amazing to see this in the context of 1700-1800 Tucson, where folks were living in tents, teepees, etc.
