Abe Lincoln's boyhood home, near Hogdenville, KY

This is the one room cabin Abe remembered from his youth. He lived here from 1811 when he was 2 until he was almost 8 in 1816, and attended his first school house, which his father paid for. It didn't last long tho- his father pulled him out to help with the farming. His father moved from the Sinking Spring farm(now enshrined) to this farm- Knob Hill- which he leased while disputing his land claim for Sinking Spring. Thomas Lincoln lost his land claim and moved to Spencer County , Indiana in 1816. Although conflicting land claims were common in KY in the early 1800's, Abe would be astounded to know that donors paid $1 million for this 228 acre Knob Hill area that has been donated to the US Park Service. It was here that Austin Gollaher, little known hero, saved our favorite President and pulled him from the swollen area creek. It was also here that Lincoln had his first encounter with slavery, as slaves were marched down the road in front of the cabin.
